What Causes Neck and Shoulder Ache?

Hi, I’m Joanna from Cram Osteopaths.

One of the most common things that we see in the clinic is neck strain and related headaches. This is something that can really interfere with everyday life, especially if you’ve been working from home and maybe don’t have the right set up, or perhaps you went back to the office now and, again you’ve changed desks and you’ve not quite got your setup correct.

The test that we would always check to see if it’s coming from the neck involves two different movements that you can do yourself at home.

So if, when you look up and then turn your head to one side and you’re getting pain down the neck, or turn onto the other side, you’re getting pain down your neck, then we start to know that it’s coming from the structures in the neck as well.

If it also results in headaches, we may call this a cervicogenic headache. One of the many symptoms that you might be getting is tingling down into the fingers and depending on where that tingling is also helps us to say which part of the neck is involved in your pain.

Obviously when you come and see us, we’ll do a much more thorough examination so that we know exactly what structures are causing the problem. But if you are doing this test yourself at home while watching this video, and it’s definitely reproducing your symptoms, don’t hesitate to get in touch, book online or give us a call and the sooner you get started, the sooner we’ll have you feeling better.
